Neighbors, 

     It has been an honor to serve as mayor these past three years for the City of Gary.  At the beginning of my term, I asked you to REIMAGINE Gary, a city we all call home. I anticipated challenges but some have been greater than others. Who would have imagined that we would find ourselves shut-down from a global pandemic? COVID-19 slowed us down but it didn’t stop our determination. Working our way through COVID-19 we’ve made tremendous progress. Our administration created a conscious and realistic plan to lower our city debt. I am happy to say that we have paid down about $7 million in long-term debt which frees up some of your tax-dollars and re-allocating them to other areas to improve services offered to Gary residents. In order to move our city forward, we must stabilize the finances. 

We’ve made strides in so many areas of the city as well. To begin the process of cleaning up our city, we hosted a series of All-In Gary City-Wide cleanups. We expended dollars to the purchase of police and fire equipment to enhance efficiency in the departments. We donated $10 million to the Tolleston Park project to support health and wellness initiatives and youth development. In that same regard, we have earmarked $5 million to the development of a new state-of-the-art health department. 

I want all of the residents of the City of Gary to know that we are working for you. I would love to continue to make sure that your tax dollars are properly managed and used to enhance your quality of life.
